Gasparilla sound sits just inside the beaches of Gasparilla and Little Gasparilla islands and is also just a stones throw away from the tarpon capital of the world, Boca Grande Pass. Just as important, it’s adjacent to both Bull and turtle Bay. Together, these three estuaries combine to make up one of the most complex group of mangrove lined shorelines in southwest Florida. Separated by never-ending miles of shallow grass flats, this endless mangrove habitat provides some of the best shoreline fishing for snook and redfish in Florida.
With clear Gulf water flowing from Boca Grande and Gasparilla Pass and freshwater runoff coming from Buck, Coral, Whidden’s, Catfish and Boggess Hole Creeks, this area is a virtual breeding ground for all our favorite game fish.
The fishing heritage of the local community can clearly be seen by taking a run through Bull Bay and taking a look at the Ice Shacks that to this day still resemble the original ice houses built on stilts that were used to ice down daily catches before there were powered vessels to get fish back to mainland markets in a timely manner.
