Fishing Report
Covering Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor, Gasparilla Sound
Week of March 3rd
Redfish – Mangrove shorelines and the adjacent mixed sand and grass flats just off the intracoastal waterway in northern Gasparilla Sound around the Whidden’s and Catfish Creek areas are holding some good upper slot fish. Some of our most effective baits have
been top water and floating twitchbaits, live shrimp, and small crab flies.
Snook – Our season just opened March 1st and we are finding some good fish
at the mouth of tidal creeks along the west wall. The outgoing tide has fished best with shallow suspending plugs and small white baitfish flies producing a bite.
Spotted Seatrout – The grassflats in Gasparilla Sound between the Three Sisters area and the intracoastal waterway is holding good numbers of fish in four feet of water. Just about any artificial bait worked off the bottom will produce
a bite.
Cobia – Cobia are beginning to show up on the bar along both the east and west wall of the harbor. Look for the stingrays and be prepared with a bucktail jig tipped with shrimp.
