Fishing Report
Covering Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor, Gasparilla Sound
Week of February 5

We are still dealing with cool weather in Southwest Florida along with a consistent northerly breeze. We are getting in some good days before each front when it typically warms up to the mid 70’s. Our best bite has been from redfish, spotted seatrout, sheepshead, and pompano.
Redfish – There are lots of smaller slot size fish around tidal creeks areas along the west wall of Charlotte Harbor.  There are bigger slot and oversized fish around shorelines adjacent to the intra coastal waterway in both Gasparilla and Pine Island Sound. Live shrimp, soft plastic shrimp, and small suspending plugs have been producing. On fly, small shrimp and crab patterns have been working best.

Spotted Sea trout – The grass flats in southern Gasparilla Sound adjacent to the western end of Bull Bay are holding good fish.  Most artificial baits will work well when you find the fish. Of course, live shrimp works great.

Sheepshead – The piers of Placida, Boca Grande, and El Jobean are holding lots of fish.  Fiddler crabs as well as frozen sand fleas and shrimp are the most popular baits.

Pompano – There are fish in the two to four pound range from Englewood to Sanibel on the beaches. In addition, all bar systems adjacent to Charlotte Harbor are holding fish with some of the most consistent reports coming from the Cape Haze area.
