Fishing Report
Covering Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor, Gasparilla Sound
Week of July 14

Redfish -  We have been having success this past week fishing flats with patchy bottom, a mix of sand and turtle grass, in deeper water around three to four feet. The best spots have been areas not too far from the intracoastal waterway in both Gasparilla and Pine Island Sound. The water temperature is hovering around 90 degrees and the fish seem to like the deeper spots where the water is a bit cooler. Soft plastic jerkbaits, topwater plugs, and seaducer flies have all been catching fish.

Snook – We also spent some time targeting snook along the beach and intracoastal side of Cayo Costa State park. This is a barrier island that is only accessible by boat and the bite has been real good first thing in the morning. Top water is one of my favorite ways to fish this area. With fly, an eight-weight outfit rigged with floating line and  popper or slider is a great way to go, and with a spinning rod, any walk the dog style plug like a Sebile or Mirrolure will draw a strike. There is no better place to catch a sunrise.
